5 Minutes with our Volunteers & Therapists

At our Education & Wellness Centre, we value every person that we have the pleasure of meeting. This includes all of our volunteers, without whom we would be at a loss! So to show our appreciation, and give you a better idea of who we are and what we do, we’re dedicating some of our blog space to our volunteers.

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Jacqui Gray, who has been with us pretty much since we opened and very quickly became part of the TAC family. Check out our Q&A below.

Thank you Jacqui, for giving us yet more of your time!

What type therapies do you offer?

Reflexology, aromatherapy massage (head and scalp) and Aroma-facials.

Can you describe what a typical treatment might entail?

Everybody is different of course, but an example could be: if somebody is experiencing pain in head and scalp, or not sleeping well, I may do some energy ‘drainage’.. using acupressure points, I start with the jaw and work up, across the face and over the scalp. I’ll also make a special blend of oils for each client, depending on their needs. (At this point Jacquie gives me a ‘demo’ treatment – I am a lucky blogger!)

How long have you been volunteering at TAC? Almost 1 year now! I’m so excited to be celebrating my anniversary… I can’t believe it’s been a year.

What made you want to join the team?

I spent a long time caring for my daughter, who I can only describe as a ‘troubled soul’ (like many of us!). As she started to make progress in herself and when I felt I was able to leave her for a little while, I wanted to do something useful and help others. So I went on a volunteering website and saw an ad for TAC. I was attracted straight away, it was like a pull. My mum also passed away from cancer so the work at the centre really resonated with me. Watching your loved one go through something like that and feeling totally helpless… all I wanted to do was ease her pain.

What do you enjoy most? Helping my clients; I get so much back when they go out and they’re much more relaxed and in less pain than when they came in. I honestly can’t put it into words… it makes you feel you’ve done something worthwhile and given back to the world. It’s also a great family environment, we all just gel and it’s a lovely, welcoming atmosphere.

Ahh, such warm words from a warm heart (and hands!) Wednesday’s really wouldn’t be the same without Jacqui. If you’d like to find our more about her treatments, or to book an appointment, please do get in touch at info@www.togetheragainstcancer.org.uk.
